Do employers check your credit when deciding to hire you?

Many companies do, even for entry level jobs like a customer service representative, since you will have access to people%26#039;s account information.

However, you must give your consent before they are allowed to check your credit so you should read everything you sign very carefully to see if they are going to check your credit.

If you do have some derogatory items on your credit report, and the company is going to check your credit, be up front about it with the interviewer and on your application. If you are honest about what is on your report and why it is there, you may still be able to get hired.

some do. the more important your job, the more likely they will. you work at mcdalnalds....no one cares about your credit.....you work as a manager of funds for a large bank...they will. if you have bad credit, you wont get a job as a CIA or a poilice officer. depends on your job

It does depend on the job. I worked for a title company, and they ran a background check and credit check on me.

maybe yes and maybe not. but we dont check the credit cards of our new applicants. we check their work experienced, skills and PR, (bio-data), so forth.

many companies do these days. however they won%26#039;t decline your candidacy if you score isn%26#039;t perfect. they may have a problem if you are bancrupt or in default (based on the type of job you are applying for)

This has become a common practice, especially if you are applying for a job that requires you to deal with money, public records, company credit cards, customer service or work in a finance position.

If there are any bad things on your credit? It%26#039;s best to be up front with your employer.

I have had a few jobs and no one has ever checked my credit. Why would any employer need to know what your credit is like? A background check would be more logical than a credit check.

Most retailers (target, costco, walgreen%26#039;s etc...) are checking credit now because they think it is a judge of your character and your responsibility.
