Do the insurance companies check your credit report and your criminal record when they give you insurance?

An insurance score is a score calculated from information on your credit report. Credit information is very predictive of future accidents or insurance claims, which is why most insurers, uses this information to help develop more accurate rates. Each insurer has its own method for evaluating this credit information.

Favorable credit information results in lower premiums. Because both above-average and below-average factors are evaluated, you still have the opportunity to get a lower rate, even if there are some below-average items in your credit history.

Favorable credit factors might include:

Long-established credit history

Numerous open accounts in good standing

No late payments or past due accounts

Low use of available credit

Unfavorable credit factors might include:

Collection accounts

Numerous past-due payments

High use of available credit

Numerous recent applications for credit

Some of them might check your credit because they want to know that you can pay the insurance, but if you are being added to your dad%26#039;s policy then they need that info to calculate your rates

They will check your credit and then apply a formula to your credit score that will determine your premium rate. This is a common insurance industry practice. Good luck!

Credit record, yes, usually. Criminal record not usually. Social security number is really not their business unless they have some compelling reason for having it, and they have to disclose why they need it to get it. As to the rest of the information they are asking, it is so they can establish a rate for your coverage.

Well, the CREDIT score is used in rating and eligibility determination, before the policy is issued.

If you say yes to the felony, they will ask for more details - if it%26#039;s insurance fraud, they won%26#039;t insure you. If you say no to a felony, they won%26#039;t run the criminal backround check on you unless you file a claim that looks suspicious. At that time, if they found out you lied on the application, it can void out the policy.

All of the things that they are asking for are normal. If you are being added to your parents policy then they will not run a credit check on you because they are using your dads credit. Your marital status does make a difference so they need to know that. Many companies offer discounts for under age 21 drivers that have children. Everything they have asked for is normal information they would have to have in order to add you to your dads policy.
