Do I have to let a potential employer check my credit?

Is it really any of their business?

Do I have to let a potential employer check my credit?

No, you don%26#039;t have to let them but they may withdraw the job offer from you. I don%26#039;t agree with it either. People%26#039;s Credit Reports are PRIVATE and it should be limited to who ask for them unless you are purchasing a house, car or getting a credit card offer from Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc. It%26#039;s a good reason to pull your credit report, but just to apply for a job, it is unnecessary %26amp; ridiculous. I really hope that the Government will put a stop to this soon. Some companies are NOSY. Also, you have to becareful because every time you show your credit to companies who%26#039;s not even granting you credit, you become vulnerable to IDENTITY THEFT.

They can ask you but if you dont allow it than they cant. They cant force you but if you say no that will just tell them that your credit sucks and will come up with some BS and hire someone else who is more %26quot;qualified%26quot; than you are.

The reason why they check your credit history is because they want to know if you have accounts that will become possible wage garnishments, etc. It costs and is an inconvenience to employers to get your wages garnished.

Good Luck

Anymore in this day and age, if you want the job? The answer is yes.

If you were the employer, you would understand why this is so important.
