If someone adds you as an authorized user do they check your credit report?

Will it effect either ones credit score? If I add someone with bad or no credit how does it effect me, in other words.

If someone adds you as an authorized user do they check your credit report?

Speaking as a nationally known credit score and mortgage lending expert (book, radio shows, newspaper columns, etc.):

There are TWO types of authorized user:

1) Authorized user who is not also responsible to the creditor for the debt. This will not show up on the other person%26#039;s credit report*.

2) JOINT authorized user, who is also responsible for the debt along with you. This does show on their report and will help them. Some of the credit card companies may deny the other Joint User, some won%26#039;t.

* Citibank is different in that they call both 1%26amp;2 above %26quot;authorized user%26quot;. You must insist the card be reported on the other person%26#039;s credit and give their social sec. number. Citibank results in less score improvement.

No, the other person%26#039;s bad credit canNOT hurt your credit.

Be sure to tell your creditor either not to issue any card or to send it to your address only. Unless you want the other person to be able to spend money.

I dont think that it will effect them at all.

I added my child as an authorized user on my visa so he could buy a few things online and I can track his spending etc.

he is underage so if they would have checked, he would have been denied.

Now that might have been an abberation

dunno

but I seriously doubt that it would HELP them raise their credit score dircetly.

What I did when I was younger was that I was an authorized user on my dad%26#039;s card.

Since the card had my name on it, I used it to apply for sears and a jcpennys card and was given instant approval (since you needed one to get theirs at that time)

SO in that respect it was helpful

IT will effect YOU if you let them charge on your card.

I wouldnt do it

if there credit was better they wouldnt need to be on yours.

they screwed their own credit up and now yours looks tastey

I dont care how much you love her, just say that your bank said no.

Once you get them on it might be hard to get them off (think about trying to take your mothers name off a car that she cosigned for you, neither you or she can do it without the bank%26#039;s permission) it MIGHT be the same way with this (i dont know)

If someone adds you as an authorized user do they check your credit report?

No credit check is performed due to the fact that they are not responsible for paying the money back you are.

If used responsibly, it will help both of your scores. But be careful, you are responsible for paying the debt so if the person you add runs up a large debt you will be held accountable.

Well here is a real time example. When i was 18 i didn%26#039;t have a credit card, no credit what so ever. My dad added me as an authorized user onto his account, which was cool cus i didn%26#039;t get checked. After making purchases and paying off the account for 6 months, my credit bounced up to 730 which is excellent. I just recently got a approved for a $12,750 credit card from my bank, and i%26#039;m looking forward to growing my credit even more :)
