I recently saw an apartment that I really want. The landlord wants to run a credit and background ch

When I was 19 years old, I commited a misdeameanor that I am ashamed of and I don%26#039;t discuss at all. I have a great job and great salary.. When conducting a background check will criminal history come up? Or past rental history?

no...common b/g checks only show felony%26#039;s.....credit shows everything though

You didn%26#039;t say how old you are. I doubt that it will come up. Go for it.

Usually just felonies and sometimes outstanding warrants show up on those kinds of checks.

Go to the police dept and have them run your name, and see what is says, and get a copy. If it comes up in your life, you can explain the facts. If you have a lawyer, see if you can have it expunged off your record

Your landlord won%26#039;t ask past landlords about your criminal history accept if it had something to do with you as a tenent. (if that%26#039;s what you are asking). The landlord also has the right to ask about past references from rentals. (the only way around it is if you%26#039;ve always lived at home with your parents).

I do criminal background checks on potenial employees/vendors on a daily basis. It%26#039;s better to be honest than hide the truth. If you lie on an application you won%26#039;t get it to the place that you want. But if you committed a misdeameanor years ago when you were young and foolish, people will be a lot more forgiving when you own up to it verses them finding out on their own. (You let them know you%26#039;re not trustworthy when you lie.)

But think about it; don%26#039;t you WANT to live in a place that does criminal %26amp; credit checks to keep out some of the riff-raff?

I say come clean and be honest.

Landlords generally do not run checks on crimes and convictions. They are interested in how a person pays his/her bills. Having someone fall behind on payment is very

disconcerting to a landlord. I know because I was a landlord once and it is a tough assignment to go after a rent dodger.
